Is there a Wordle for medicine?
Yes. Daily diagnosis puzzles such as iatroX Rounds and Doctordle work like Wordle, with clues and limited guesses. WardRun, which we make, is different: its Daily is a short daily clinical-case quiz, the same for everyone, with a streak and a shareable result.
Disclosure: WardRun is a free UKMLA medical revision tool for UK medical students, made by Med Services Ltd. It is listed here alongside the other options, described from the same kinds of public facts.
The options side by side
| Option | What it is | Where | Cost, as stated | Source and date |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| iatroX Rounds | A daily diagnosis puzzle. You read clues one at a time and name the diagnosis; six guesses, and each wrong guess reveals the next clue. Streak and archive of past cases. Built for UK learners preparing for UKMLA, PLAB, MRCP and MRCGP. | Not stated on their public page | Free to play. A free account saves your streak and stats. | iatrox.com/rounds, checked 15 October 2026 |
| Doctordle | A daily diagnosis puzzle: you type a diagnosis and can reveal more clues first; abbreviations are accepted. Several sites use this name, and the site checked does not say who runs it. | Browser | Cost not stated on their public page. | doctordle.today, checked 15 October 2026 |
| MedRoyale | A 1v1 quiz app for UK medical students: play friends, with review mode using spaced repetition (FSRS), linked flashcards and an editable textbook. Question count not stated. | iOS and Android apps | Free to start; free players get daily matches, and an upgrade in the app unlocks unlimited play. Upgrade price not stated. | medroyale.co.uk, checked 15 October 2026 |
| WardRun (ours) | Free UKMLA revision tool. The Daily is one run of clinical-case questions a day, the same for everyone, three wards from easy to hard, every answer explained. Who each is best for
- iatroX Rounds suits you if you want the closest match to Wordle: one case a day, clue by clue, six guesses, and a diagnosis to reason towards. It states that it is free to play.
- Doctordle suits you if you want the same clue-by-clue diagnosis format in a browser. Because several sites use the name, check which one you are on.
- MedRoyale suits you if you would rather play a friend head to head on your phone than do a solo daily.
- WardRun suits you if you want a daily habit built from UKMLA-style single best answer questions rather than a single diagnosis puzzle. The Daily is one run a day with three wards of patients from easy to hard, every answer explained, a streak, and a result you can share. Blitz is five questions against the clock. Daily and Blitz are free; Study, the full bank with spaced repetition, is paid.
These do different jobs. A diagnosis puzzle trains one clinical reasoning step. Exam-style questions practise choosing from five options under the same format as the Applied Knowledge Test. Many students sensibly do one of each. For the bigger picture, see which apps to use to revise for the UKMLA and the best free UKMLA question banks.
