How to choose a UKMLA question bank

There is no single best UKMLA question bank. There is the right one for how you revise. Here is what matters, the free resources to use first, and where WardRun fits.

Start with what is free

  • The Medical Schools Council publishes a free 200-question AKT practice exam in the real format. Use it to find your weak areas, then again near the exam under timed conditions.
  • Check whether your medical school or your BMA membership already gives you access to a paid bank such as BMJ OnExamination before you pay for one.

What to look for in a paid bank

  • Mapped to the current content map. The GMC map that applies from September 2026 is the one that matters.
  • The real format: single best answer with five options, because that is how the AKT is written.
  • Explanations that teach the reasoning, including why the tempting wrong answers are wrong.
  • Current UK guidance. Ask how often the questions are reviewed.
  • Spaced repetition, so the questions you missed come back.
  • A free trial, so you can judge the explanations before you pay.

The big paid banks

The best-known paid banks include Passmedicine, Quesmed and Pastest. Compare their current prices, trials and features on their own sites, since offers change through the year. Then choose one main bank and finish it, rather than starting three.

Where WardRun fits

WardRun is the daily habit alongside or instead of a main bank. Every day there is a free run of questions mapped to the 2026 content map, the key point after every answer, and a ranking against your own medical school. WardRun Study, at £3.99 a month or £34.99 a year, opens the whole bank of 6,800+ questions with full explanations, a session built for you each day and spaced repetition.

Judge it the same way as any other bank: try ten free questions and read the explanations.

A new set every day

6,800+ questions mapped to the 2026 UKMLA content map, free every day with every answer explained. Climb your medical school's table.
