Nigeria and Pakistan

For medical students and doctors in Nigeria and Pakistan: daily practice and the UK content map

Nigeria and Pakistan both train doctors in English through an MBBS followed by supervised house jobs, and many of their graduates look at the UK. Here is what is fixed at home and in the UK, and where WardRun fits.

Nigeria

The Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria requires twelve months of uninterrupted housemanship at an accredited centre before full registration.

Pakistan

The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council has reintroduced the National Licensing Examination for MBBS and BDS graduates. Check the PMDC's announcements for current dates and rules.

If you are considering the UK

International doctors who want to join the UK medical register take PLAB, which the GMC says meets its Medical Licensing Assessment requirements. UK graduates and international doctors are assessed on the same set of topics, set out in the MLA content map. Under the UK's Medical Training (Prioritisation) Act 2026, Foundation Programme places go first to UK graduates and a small priority group, so plan for that.
